Hmm.. I think I sohuld mention this. I have this really big collection of old hindi MP3s, mostly from IITK. And they are completely unsorted, without any tag of any kind. For the last one year I had been planning to sort and tag them properly, but never had the enthu/time. There were just too many MP3s. Few days back, I came across this site EarthMusic, and an idea-bulb lit inside my head.

And the result:

#include “disclaimer.h”

1. mp3update.pl

2. (and as a helper, I took this file TableThing off the net).

Works beautifully (At least for me). To use

1. Have perl and wget installed.

2. For perl, we need MP3::Tag module also.

3. Put the TableThing.pm file in the same dir with mp3update.pl (or in the perl modules dir)

Then Run:

./mp3update.pl filename

Note:
It searches for the song info using the words from the filename. So, the filename should be close to the song title.

Yet another bad movie. Very Very bad movie. Too many casts, too many loosely wound plotlines, slow, unnecessarily gory, not a bit entertaining, forcefully inserted sleazy song+dange sequence…. and I feel bad that I wasted over two hours on this movie on this beautiful saturday afternoon. Even sleeping would have been more worthwhile….

Neha Dhupia (the Julie girl) cannot act. Period. But other than that I have no complaints over acting though. Sanjay Dutt is good. Bipasa Basu is not bad either. But the main drawback of this movie is the uneven sluggish pace and introduction of unnecessary subplots, twists. Yana Gupta appears for one dance sequence (which had no connection with the movie whatsoever), and one 5 word dialog … and that coreography was the promotional number for the movie. The only thing that impresses me in this movie is the acting of Sunil Shetty. Dino Morea did a good job of acting also.

Final thought, it could have been a real good movie had it been a litle more clean. I know 95% of Indians will not agree with me on my comments of the appearance of Abhishek, Yena just for one song (why the hell is there so many dance sequence anyway? Why don’t they make video albums.. why on movies?)… but this is my personal view. (Don’t question me if I dislike them that much, why do I see it… well, I have my own time to kill :D )

Now I am going to write the gentoo guide that I am thinking of writing for the past few weeks…

Miscellaneous 11 Sep 2004 01:47 pm

Hmm.. today fine morning I received a pink colored notice attached to our apartment door. The title says (in bold face) “THRE DAYS NOTICE TO PAY RENT OR QUIT“. That’s a nice feeling.. is it not? Aparently in our lease renewal agreement, the apartment rent was $1500 + ($46 for cable). But somehow the Costa Verde Corporate agency messed up their accounting and is now charging us $1795 per month (+cable), which is the rent for a month to month basis. I stormed to the leasing office, and was pacified and was told to come back on Monday. So, there is a chance that on monday evening I might be living on the streets :-D

My Life 11 Sep 2004 02:09 am

It is a wonder…just today I happened to look at my blog, and was amazed to see that so many days have passed since I last updated it. It is not that there was nothing to write, on the contrary – there were a lot, but this is just my laziness getting better of me yet once again… and this is yet one more attempt from me to get the upper hand.

Now that I started to write, a hell lot of words are coming gushing into my head. In a summary, had I made my entries in the blog for the last few days, I would have mentioned these: (not necessarily in this order though)

1. I saw the Jet Li movie hero, and immensely enjoyed it. I would recommend this movie everyone. I cannot articulate why I liked it that much, but for me it is enough that I was struck by the cinematography, the use of colors, and of course, the (definitely unachievable) beauty of the martial arts. If you haven’t seen it, go see it. It should still be running in some theaters near you.

2. Also watched Dhoom and Fida. I won’t say much. I have heard people say that Dhoom and Fida are good. Fida has a storyline that is, well, different from the usual bollywood style stories, and Dhoom.. well I am really trying not to sound like a male chauvinist, but what is the point of introducing a couple of actresses whose only role in the entire movie to participate in three dance+song sequence and to speak less than 10 dialogs. Esha Deol has practically NO role in that movie. (why should there be at least 5 dance+song in every movie beats me, but that is another story) .. but oj well, this is desi bollywood after all :)

3. Just a few days back, I received a telephone call from Prasenjit. We were very close friends while in class 4-5 in RKMVP, Purulia. And I did not hear anything about/from him after clas X. Now suddenly he gives me a call from NY. That really felt nice. We have talked few times over phone. He even had an interview today. I tried to call him twice, but nobody answered. I just pray that he gets the job.

4. My old wingmate Vikas Paliwal is here for an interview with Qualcomm. It seems that Qualcomm is on a hiring spree right now. Incidentally, the Marriott hotel in which Paliwal was staying is just 3-4 min walking distance from my apartment.

5. Himanshu et all will move tomorrow to their new apartment. So, I have asked them to have dinner at our apartment (now that Sudipta is here .. a good cook) :)

And lastly, I the gentoo linux tweak and customization is almost complete. I will write a guide “Gentoo Linux on Dell Inspiron 8600” and put that in my webpage in near future. (I dont know if google is ever going to index my page. I think I might go back to the old setup … ieng9.ucsd.edu… lets see)

… and it is almost 2 am, and I should be going to bed and try to get some sleep. I just set an alarm for 7:30 in the morning. I have to wake up…… I HAVE TO…
